The Kapil Sharma Show loses all love and now the primetime slot too.
Nothing is going in Kapil Sharma‘s favour ever since he was involved in a brawl with Sunil Grover while on a flight. He not only got slammed by his own fans but by fellow TV actors as well. No amount of apologetic tweets could salvage the situation for him. The show may have finished its 100th episode but the future looks bleak for the show, thanks to the spat. According to DNA, Sony, the channel that airs the show, is in no mood to renew their contract with the comedian-actor which means it is the end of the road for The Kapil Sharma Show.
The daily quoted a source saying, “The makers are definitely not ready to pay Rs 107 crore for a show which is getting them nothing. Kapil might negotiate but the channel heads are shocked. Either Kapil has to get back Sunil and Ali, else his show stands scrapped. The latter is most likely to happen because Grover and Asgar are not ready to budge from their stand.” The daily also reports that Sunil Grover and Ali Asgar’s absence from the show is making it fall short on viewership. Ever since the show had started, it had managed to keep consistent TRPs but the fallout between Kapil and Sunil have adversely affected the show’s prospects. All the tricks in the book, to lure the audience back to the show, have failed and the show has fallen flat.
There were rumours about the channel wanting to launch Sunil’s show and give The Kapil Sharma Show the boot. DNA again had quoted a source earlier in this regards saying, “They are planning to invest in Sunil now for a different show altogether. Ever since the fight happened, even rival channel Colors (who have a long standing issue with Kapil) has approached Sunil for a show but he has not signed anything. Sony has rights to his characters — Rinku bhabi and Dr Mashoor Gulati— and they also earn a chunk of money from his live shows where he performs in his avatars…So they might have a show with these characters.”
So will The Kapil Sharma Show make way for an independent Sunil Grover show?
